Pickford Hosts Outdoor Movie in Downtown Bellingham
Celebrate the bicycle and the Pickford Film Center during an evening of outdoor cinema Friday, Aug. 14.
The Pickford Film Center is hosting the festivities, which will be in front of its theater being built at 1318 Bay St.
Events will include a beer garden and screening of the bike-inspired, animated feature “The Triplets of Belleville” as well as a bicycle show and shine. The movie is rated PG-13.
Bicyclists can park their wheels at the parking lot next to the Bay Street theater.
The celebration begins at 7 p.m. with music by Bar Tabac and film shorts. The movie will play around 8:50 p.m. Hay bales will be set up on Bay Street for seating, but cinema-goers are encouraged to bring chairs.
Admission is by suggested donation.
Bike clubs will be at the celebration, and an Electra “Townie” bicycle will be raffled off as part of the Pickford’s summer membership drive.
Tours of the center under construction also are part of the event.
Surrounding businesses including Bayou on Bay, The Temple Bar and Mount Bakery will donate a percentage of their sales during the celebration toward construction of the new film center.
The nonprofit Pickford has raised about 75 percent of its goal of $3 million for the project.
When completed, the new film center will have two theaters – one that seats 90 people and another that seats 145 – with better sight lines, more comfortable seats and state-of-the-art sound and projection.
Formerly known as Whatcom Film Association, the Pickford Film Center also runs the existing theater – The Pickford Cinema – at 1416 Cornwall Ave.
