The history of Father’s Day leads back to the 20th century. Churches and organizations like YWCA wanted Father’s Day to go along with Mother’s Day. Congress only laughed at the proposal. They believed that the father had a huge influence on the family and should be recognized. The next big step to making Father’s Day a holiday was in 1966 when US President Lyndon B. Johnson sent a proclamation honoring fathers and requesting that the third Sunday in June be dedicated to fathers. But it wasn’t until 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the national holiday into law.
